Baseball – softball playoff picture

By: Don Gearhart

As the Spring Season is winding down to the final week of regular season games, it is time to take a look at the playoff picture for Darlington County teams.

Baseball:
Hartsville is in the driver seat in AAAA Region 6 with an 8-2 league record and holds the tie breaker over second place North Myrtle Beach. The Red Foxes have two league games remaining, both against Wilson.
Darlington is currently in 5th place with a 3-7 league record and two games remaining against 4th place West Florence. A Falcons victory or a loss by Wilson will clinch the final playoff spot for Darlington.
Trinity Collegiate is 17-6 overall and 5-5 in AAA Region 2. This is good for 3rd place in their league. All league games have been completed but the Titans have three games remaining. Wins in all three would give them a 20-win season with hopes of obtaining at at-large bid for the playoffs.
Lamar is 7-12 and 5-5 in A Region 5. The Silver Foxes appear to be on the outside looking in for a playoff spot.

Softball:
The Lady Red Foxes of Hartsville have a 16-3 record and are undefeated in league play with a 10-0 record. They have league games with Wilson and Darlington this week and have a lock on the top spot where South Florence already have three losses (and two against Hartsville) and cannot catch the Ladies in Red.
Darlington currently is sitting in 4th place. The Lady Falcons are 12-12 and 3-7 in the league. There remaining games against West Florence and Hartsville will be tests to their playoff picture, but, they should be eligible for the playoffs unless Wilson and Myrtle Beach both sweep their games this week.
The Lady Silver Foxes from Lamar are in a difficult position since only two teams are automatic playoff positions. Lamar is 15-9 and 7-2 in their league. They trail Lake View and Hannah-Pamplico who only have one loss apiece. Their destiny is in their hands with games against both front runners this week. If there is at at-large berth, they would be in contention even finishing 3rd in their league.
