Bench honors “Good Time Charlie”

There is a new bench in front of Jewel’s Deluxe Restaurant, dedicated to Charlie Jennings, who was a music DJ and also worked for Jewel’s. Charlie helped with the remodeling construction at the restaurant in 1984 and became a well-loved part of the business, delivering orders around the downtown area for those who couldn’t leave to take a lunch break. He was known as “Good Time Charlie” and also worked for Harrison Specialty Company years before that. “He was truly one of a kind,” Nancy Rollins of Jewel’s said. The money for the bench was raised within 30 days but, because of shortages and time constraints, the installation was delayed. It is now in place and ready for all to enjoy.
