Butler Foundation holds their Development, Investment meeting

The board of the Butler Heritage Foundation (BHF) held an Economic Development and Community Investment Meeting at the Butler Campus Auditorium in Hartsville on Thursday, February 16, 2023.

Sheila Squires, the co-chair of the board, stated that the purpose of the meeting was to provide the community and invited stakeholders for a briefing on the activities of the Foundation and to specifically address the $500,000.00 grant awarded to the Foundation by the SC Legislature thanks to the Darlington County Legislative Caucus.

The funding will address physical improvements and community programs in keeping with the Mission of the Foundation which is to preserve the legacy of Butler High School by establishing a Community and Cultural Center and by providing and supporting diverse programs for all.

The meeting included a PowerPoint presentation by Ms. Squires showing the improvements that have been accomplished to date which include installing storm windows in the gymnatorium which will enable it to be used as a community shelter during adverse weather such as hurricanes, acquiring a grant to accommodate asbestos abatement in several buildings, and giving a list of projects to be addressed.

Participants in these efforts have included the Byerly Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club, Darlington County Sheriff Office, City of Hartsville Representatives (City Manager and Councilmembers) and the Senior Center (Darlington County Council of Aging). At the close of the presentation, questions were addressed from the audience which included a virtual presence.

On 09 March 2023 at 6:00 P.M. in the center auditorium, BHF will host another ‘Economic Development and Community Investment Meeting’ for members and the general public. More information can be obtained from the Foundation’s website: Butlerheritagefoundation.org.
