Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center announces Ostomy Management Specialist

Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce that Inpatient Wound Care Nurse Karen Butler, BSN, RN, WCC, OMS has just been certified as an ostomy management specialist.

Butler will begin seeing patients in an outpatient setting in the near future for education on ostomies including details about urostomy, colostomy, ileostomy, marking of appropriate locations, care and management. Butler will also assist patients that are experiencing complications with their ostomy.

In January, Butler and Tanya Baker, RN, CIC Director of Infection Control and Employee Health will begin a support group for ostomates and caregivers. Details regarding the support group will be shared at a later date.

Butler resides in Hartsville with her husband and two children. She received her BSN degree from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and has been working in healthcare for 16 years, all at Carolina Pines.
