Coker defeats Belmont Abbey in field hockey

The Coker University field hockey team rallied past Belmont Abbey for a 3-2 overtime win on Saturday (Oct. 30) for Senior Day. Belmont Abbey took a 1-0 lead four minutes in, before increasing their lead halfway through the second quarter to take a 2-0 lead. Coker would get on the board in the final minute of the first half when Coda Fisher deflected a shot into the back of the cage from Britt Kabo, as the Cobras went to the half down 2-1. The teams would play a scoreless third quarter, before the Cobras would tie things up early in the fourth. Rylie Cordrey would score the tying goal by deflecting home a shot from Fisher, as the teams would head to overtime. The Cobras would get the win less than three and a half minutes into the extra session, when Cordrey scored her second of the game off a scramble in front of the cage to polish off the victory for Coker. Coker out-shot Belmont Abbey 12-11 in the contest, and also earned 11 penalty corners to Belmont Abbey’s nine. Kelsey Sithole added three shots in the game, while Milou Peters also added one. Kelsey Gibbons earned the win between the pipes, making five saves.
