DAR Chapter receives grant to restore historic marker

The Samuel Bacot Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution received a matching grant from the national society of DAR- to restore the historic marker of their namesake, Samuel Bacot (1745-1795).  The marker, located on East McIver Road in Darlington County, was originally placed in 1973.  The black background paint had worn badly and the bracket holding the marker on its post had cracked.  The Darlington County Department of Transportation moved the marker back several feet on their property, in order for drivers to have a clear view turning onto the busy McIver Road.  The Florence Darlington Tech Welding Department repaired the broken bracket.  Mr. Thomas Stelling of Historical Markers Restorations was engaged to do the restoration of the marker itself.

Funding for this project was made possible through the sponsorship of the Samuel Bacot Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
