Darlington County collision results in death
A fatal collision occurred on South Charleston Road in Darlington County on Thursday, June 23, 2023, according to Cpl. Tyler Tidwell of the S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP). The incident occurred near Piano Road, approximately 5.4 miles east of Darlington. Cpl. Tidwell reported that at about 7:20pm last night, the driver of a 1993 Nissan was travelling South on South Charleston Road when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree before returning on to the road again. The vehicle crossed the center line to be struck by a 2015 Kia, which contained a driver and one passenger. The two occupants of the Kia were taken to McLeod Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. The driver of the 1993 Nissan was pronounced dead on the scene.
