Darlington Softball drubs Myrtle Beach

Starting pitcher, Katelyn Church, gave up two hits to Myrtle Beach in the top of the first inning. But, she struck out the next six batters in dominating the Lady Seahawks. It was just the opposite for Myrtle Beach as the Lady Falcons erupted for 10 first inning runs and cruised to a 12-2 win in five innings.
Linsey Tiller started things off with a base-on-balls. Savannah Evans promptly singled and Church was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Consecutive walks to Ashton Goodwin and Emily Johnson scored two runs. Alayna Williamson plated two more with a base hit. A walk by Ary McPhail was followed by a rifle shot base hit from Kansas Cassidy driving in two more runs. Whittney Turner drove in another with a fielder’s choice and only the first out of the inning. Tiller walked for the second time in the inning and Evans singled home a run with her second hit of the frame. Church grounded out to drive in the ninth run, then Goodwin doubled down the line to plate the tenth.
Darlington added a run in the second inning when Williamson led off with a double and scored when Cassidy drilled a double to center field. Another run in the third moved Darlington’s lead to 12-0. Church was hit by a pitch but was forced out when Goodwin grounded out to short. Goodwin scored on Johnson’s base hit.
Brayli Weatherford came on to pitch the final two innings for Darlington, striking out five of the eleven batters she faced. Four hits by MBHS led to their only two runs on the night. Two of those hits were of the seeing-eye variety falling just inside fair territory and just out of reach of Darlington defenders.
Berkley Hicks and Keilynn Compton each had two of the Seahawks six hits. Ava Grace Sherman was the losing pitcher.
