DCSD Gifted and Talented students travel to Savannah
More than 100 fifth-grade students who participate in the Darlington County School District’s (DCSD) Gifted and Talented program traveled to Savannah, Georgia, recently for an exciting opportunity to broaden their learning experiences.
The annual Gifted and Talented field study took students on a dolphin “eco-cruise” as well as a trolley tour of the Historic District in Savannah.
Marisa Johnson, coordinator of arts and innovative programs in DCSD, said the successful trip always proves invaluable for students.
“It’s one of the best tools that we can use to provide students with exposure to the real world,” Johnson said. “When students step out of the classroom to learn, they get a chance to witness connections between what is happening at school and in everyday life.”
Teacher and parent chaperones helped the 110 students make the trip, which also included a guided tour of the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force.
“We had an awesome time, and we will continue to work to provide fresh and engaging learning opportunities for our students,” Johnson said.
