Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association’s annual golf tournament teed off at the Darlington Country Club on Wednesday, June 24, and it was clear from the crowd that local golfers were anxious to hit the links.
“This was certainly one of our biggest turnouts,” said Lisa Rock, DDRA executive director. Rock added that DDRA might build on this success with a second golf event later this year. “We’re considering doing a fall tournament on a Friday in October,” she said.
The day’s top honors went to the City of Darlington team of Charles Bailey, Chase Bailey, Keith Young and D.J. Bruce. In second, the Darlington County Water & Sewer Authority team of Tyrone Lynn, Frank Hough, Elbert Warren and James Linton. Third place went to the Marlboro Development team of William Fleming, Bill Fleming, Ben Fleming, and Matt Haynie. Other notables included Longest Drive on Hole 10: Elbert Warren; Closest to Pin on Hole 4: Lawrence Lowe; Closest to Pin on Hole 9: Bowman Hiller; Closest to Pin on Hole 14: Dennis Lofe; and lucky Matt Jackson, who won the 50/50 drawing.
