Early College Graduate Spotlight: Whitney Kirby

Whitney Kirby is one of five Darlington High School Early College Honors Program students set to graduate with her Associate of Arts degree from Florence-Darlington Technical.

When Whitney joined the DHS Falcon family, she decided to take advantage of the school’s dual-enrollment courses and rise to the challenge of earning her Associate of Arts degree. As a junior, she committed to a full schedule of college course work year-around for the next two years, including during the summer. Since that time, she has been a devoted, full-time college student balancing her college course load each semester in addition to her other high school classes. Her hard work has paid off. Miss Kirby participated in Florence-Darlington Technical College’s Spring commencement ceremony on May 11th and will now receive both her college degree and high school diploma during Darlington High School’s graduation ceremony on June 2nd.

Whitney is a committed student-athlete at DHS who works hard at everything she does. She actively participates in the DHS Key Club and the Darlington Anchor Club, plays on the DHS varsity softball team and a local travel ball team, and works at her mom’s daycare. Whitney also participates in other activities within and outside of DHS and enjoys spending time with her friends and family.

Whitney plans to attend Presbyterian College and then medical school to eventually become a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. When thinking about her success at DHS, Whitney says, “… I was always told that I could do anything if I put my mind to it, and that’s what I did.” With that kind of confidence and determination, we know that Whitney will be successful in her future endeavors.
