Fatal collision kills one, injures two
A fatal collision occurred on Friday, May 12 at approx. 6:42 a.m., on Secondary Hwy. 177 near Mark Pond Road, 2 miles north of Darlington, according to Lance Corporal Lena Butler of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Lance Corporal Butler reported that a 2023 Peterbilt Dump Truck, with one occupant, was travelling south on Secondary Hwy. 177 when the driver of a 2007 Mazda 3, travelling north on Secondary Hwy. 177, veered left over the center line and struck the dump truck. The driver of the dump truck was injured and transported by EMS to Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. The driver of the Mazda 3 succumbed to their injuries at the scene. There was one passenger in the Mazda who was also injured and transported by EMS to McLeod Regional Medical Center.
