Frankie L. Johnson, Jr., affectionately known as “Lil Frankie,” was born on September 17, 1997, in Darlington, SC. Delivered by his father on his grandmother’s kitchen floor, his entrance into the world was marked by a unique beginning. Frankie passed away in a tragic automobile accident on December 16, 2023, leaving a void in the lives of many.

From a young age, Frankie had a passion for sports, starting with the Instructional League at Darlington Recreation Department at age three. He balanced this with a strong commitment to academics, encouraged by his parents, Frankie Johnson, Sr., and Genita Johnson. Frankie was an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where he participated in numerous youth events, receiving unwavering support from his church community.

Frankie excelled as a student-athlete in the Darlington County Public Schools, maintaining honor roll status while playing football, basketball, and baseball. He was known for his dedication, good manners, and leadership skills. At Darlington Middle School, he played quarterback and began playing basketball at Darlington High School in the seventh grade.

Continuing his education at Mayo High School for Math, Science, and Technology, Frankie stood out both academically and athletically. Despite his small stature, he demonstrated immense heart and determination, earning numerous accolades in Falcons football and basketball. His commitment to excellence made him a role model for his teammates and the Falcon community.

Frankie graduated from Mayo High School in 2016 and attended The Citadel on a full athletic scholarship for two years before transferring to Wingate University, where he graduated in 2020. He was known for his exceptional performance both in the classroom and on the court.

After college, Frankie returned to Darlington and worked at the Walmart Distribution Center in Pageland. He also coached and mentored young athletes at the Darlington Recreation Department, making a significant impact on the community.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Kaiser Alexander Johnson; his parents, Frankie Johnson, Sr., and Genita Johnson; his brother, Tyshaun Johnson; and his grandmother, Elizabeth Cain, and is also remembered by a large extended family and many friends.

To honor his legacy, the Frankie L. Johnson, Jr. F5 Foundation was established to support academic and athletic endeavors for the youth of the community. The foundation provides scholarships and resources to student-athletes who exemplify the characteristics of academic excellence, athletic IQ, coachability, dependability, and respect.

Donations to the foundation can be made through First Citizens Bank or by contacting Frankie or Genita Johnson directly.
