Today, Freddy Ray Harris III was found guilty of Murder and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Crime, in the 2019 shooting death of Kurt Russell Scholl at a home on Racetrack Road. He was found not guilty of kidnapping. The judge sentenced him to 45 years in jail on the murder charge, minus 1,013 days already served. He received a 5 year sentence for the weapons charge, to run concurrently. Harris (whose arms and feet were shackled during sentencing) smiled while the judge decreed his sentence. Harris then turned to the spectators, pointing his fingers and waving his hands like a gun, saying, “Shoot fire! Shoot fire!” The judge, regarding this as a threat to all members of the courtroom, added an additional 6 months for contempt of court.
