Friday, September 24th, the Hartsville Red Foxes defeated the visiting West Florence Knights 33 to 13 in a varsity football action in Hartsville. In the major battle against West Florence, Hartsville has been making a major comeback these past two weeks. With a final score of 13-33, the Hartsville Red Foxes claimed their name once again. Their game at Kellytown Stadium really showed their true potential. There was more teamwork in this game and they left it all on the field. Hartsville started the first quarter with a strong defense against the West Florence Knights. After keeping the visitors away from the in zone, Hartsville’s Roddi Morris completed a 14-yard touchdown pass bringing the Red Foxes a 7-0 lead. Threatened by the events from the previous quarter, West Florence was able to gain two touchdowns on the Red Foxes but only place 13 points due to a blocked kick. Hartsville gained 14 points from a 19-yard run by Carmello McDaniel and a 38-yard pass by Treion McFarland finishing the first half still in the lead 21 -13 over the knights. The third quarter was quiet with zero points by both teams. During the fourth quarter, Hartsville solidified their lead after Douglas completed a run followed by a failed kick and J’Shawn Anderson ran a 15-yard touchdown followed by a blocked kick. The visiting Knights were unable to catch up to the Red Foxes finishing the game with a 33-13 point victory. Carmello McDaniel and J’Shawn Anderson were star running back in Fridays game. McDaniel gained over 200 yards throughout the game and Anderson with 124 as well. They have great chemistry on the field together. After the Red Foxes started the season 0-3, they are not only on a two-game winning streak, but they are also off to a 2-0 start in the most important part of their schedule – that of Region 6-4A. Their offense was unstoppable. Many other star players were McKendrie Douglas, Treion McFarland, and Alex Hunt. They collect a number of yards while giving many of their lower classmen teammates a chance to shine. We look forward to seeing all the fierce that Hartsville brings to the table this season. Enjoy a Friday night showing support for your local high school teams.
