Hartsville Middle and Hartsville High band programs awarded highest state honor

The Hartsville Middle School and Hartsville High School band programs recently received the highest statewide honor available when the S.C. Band Directors Association (SCBDA) awarded both the Outstanding Performance Award.
Kevin E. Horton, awards chairman for the SCBDA, congratulated the two bands on the accomplishment.

“Both Hartsville High School and Hartsville Middle School have earned the points necessary to receive the SCBDA Outstanding Performance Award for the 2017-2018 school year,” Horton wrote in a letter. “Your outstanding marching, concert and individual student performances are a testament to the high-quality of teaching taking place in the band departments at each of your schools.”

The SCBDA Outstanding Performance Award is the highest possible award given to a band program in the state of South Carolina. Points accumulate through participation and ratings earned at the state-sponsored events such as high school marching band championships, All-State and All-Region Band, concert performance assessments and the Solo and Ensemble Festival.
