By: Don Gearhart

In what might be misconstrued as a football score, the Hartsville Post 53 Jr. Legion team defeated the League 2 PeeDee Red team by a 17-13 score. Hartsville opened the scoring in the first inning but was tied after an inning at 1-1.
The second stanza was more productive for Hartsville as they plated five runs and were aided by three walks, an error, and key hits from Steven Wint and Dorian Mason. They exploded for six more runs in the third with Mason again leading the way.
PeeDee was kept off the scoreboard in the second, third, and fourth innings. Hartsville struck again in the fifth for three runs with Bryce Oliver delivering the most damage. With a 15-1 advantage going into the bottom of the fifth the game was anything but out-of-hand. Aided by four walks and a couple of errors, and some timely hitting, PeeDee was able to score eight runs to close the gap.
Each team scored a run in the sixth to make the score 16-10 in favor of Hartsville. Post 53 scored their seventeenth run in the top of the seventh inning but PeeDee didn’t quit by scoring three runs in their half to make the final score 17-13.
