Lamar holds Community Cookout

Visitors enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers and all the other fixings during the Mercantile 213 Community Cookout on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 213 W. Main Street in Lamar, SC. Over 500 people were served. Organized by Created To Serve founder Lee Knight, this is the first time this event has taken place. On Thanksgiving, 2022, the group served more than 3,000 meals and, this fall, they plan to serve over 5,000. They are hoping to plan a free event like this every 3 or 4 months. The cookout was totally supported by donations from businesses and individuals within the community. They received no federal or state assistance.
