Man arrested after chase in Darlington County

Darlington County deputies achieved a breakthrough on Sunday, July 30, 2023, when they arrested Carlton Howle, a fugitive wanted for an incident in Hartsville. The arrest came after Howle had been charged with multiple serious crimes, including attempted murder and grand larceny exceeding $10,000, as revealed in the arrest documents.

The Hartsville police provided crucial information to the Darlington County deputies, issuing a “be on the lookout” alert for a specific vehicle linked to the incident in Hartsville. Acting swiftly on the information, deputies received a distress call reporting an assault involving shots fired at a residence near Hartsville, involving Howle and the same suspect vehicle.

Responding rapidly, the deputies managed to locate the vehicle shortly after the alert and attempted a traffic stop. However, the suspects attempted to flee, leading to a brief chase that culminated in Howle’s apprehension.

The arrest marks a significant success for law enforcement in Darlington County, reflecting the effectiveness of communication and coordination between different agencies. Howle’s alleged crimes, particularly attempted murder, are serious offenses that demand a thorough investigation and a fair legal process.
