Pedestrian killed by vehicle

On Monday night, June 19, 2023, a pedestrian was hit and killed on Highway 52 in Darlington County, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Corporal Nick Pye.

At approximately 9:25pm, the victim was in the roadway when they were hit by a 2008 Ford SUV near Parker Drive, about 3 miles north of Darlington, in front of Temple Freewill Baptist Church. The SUV was traveling south and the driver was not hurt, according to Pye. 

The victim has been identified as 85-year-old Joann Buie McKnight. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee. The death was ruled an accident and Hardee said no further investigation will take place.
