The Ladies American Legion softball team (The Quad) representing Post 13 from Darlington, Post 53 from Hartsville, Post 94 from Lamar, and Post 210 from Darlington, easily won a double-header against Bishopville by scores of 18-0 and 11-1.
In the first game, The Quad put runs on scoreboard in all four innings in which they batted. A triple by Naya Jones highlighted a 3-run first. They doubled that score in the second inning on RBI from Angelle Siders, Gracelyn Flowers, and Madie Andrews.
In the third inning, a 5-spot made the score 11-0 with key hitting including a double by Flowers and a triple by Jones.
The final score of 18-0 was achieved when seven runners crossed the plate. Gracie Blackwell started the inning off with a hustle double to right field and ended the outburst with an RBI triple to center field.
The 5-inning rule was enforced when Post 29 was retired in the top of the fifth inning.
Game 2
The second game of the double-header, Post 29 dented the scoreboard in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. That didn’t last for long as The Quad put up a 4-spot in their half of the inning. Katelyn Church led off with a double and scored on a Gracelyn Flowers single. After Naya Jones walked, Caydon Thompson singled home two more runs. Larissa Siders singled to drive in Thompson with the fourth run of the inning.
The Quad didn’t stop in the second adding another four runs to take an 8-1 lead thanks to RBI from Dakota Melancon and Tatum Weaver.
After a scoreless third inning, The Quad ended the run-rule shortened game with a three run spree. Consecutive singles from Madie Andrews, Thompson, and Ashton Goodwin loaded the bases. Siders drove in one run with a base hit as did Melancon. The third run that ended the game occurred when Ary McPhail was hit by a pitch to force in the run.
