Raymond “Pete” Jeffords Sr.

LAMAR — Raymond Franklin Jeffords Sr., “Pete,” 85, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at home with his loving family after a long battle with cancer. A graveside service was held Saturday, Jan. 16, at Lamar Memorial Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the family was asking for no visitors. Mr. Jeffords was born in the Lamar community of Darlington County, son of the late James Pierce and Nettie Guinn Jeffords. He worked for the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles for almost 40 years. He loved to fix things, and was always full of laughter, love and happiness. His jokes will be very missed. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, who was his life, his best friend and his loyal caretaker, Lula Jane Morrell Jeffords. In addition, he is survived by his three sons: Raymond (Tonya) Jeffords, Tim (Meg) Jeffords, Scott (Kristie) Jeffords, all of Lamar; his grandchildren Kristan (James) Jeffords, Jeff (Breanna) Jeffords, Brittney (Michael) Lee, Rachel (Patrick) Jeffords, Madison Jeffords, Mac McManus and Tucker McManus; his great-grandchildren JJ Jeffords, Avery Jeffords, Bauer Lee, Myles Lee and Bryan Lee, and multiple nieces, nephews and special neighborhood children throughout the years who called him “Daddy Pete.” Pete was preceded in death by his grandson Hunter Jeffords and his sister Mary Mount. He is also survived by his brother Jim Jeffords and his sister Peg Rickles, and his sisters-in-law Sue Carter and Sammie Plummer. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.
