Walter D. Weatherford, Jr. , 88, died January 7, 2023

Mr. Weatherford was born in Darlington County. He was the son of the late Walter D. and Estelle Bailey Weatherford. He was born and raised in Darlington. He attended St. John’s High School. He served his country in the United States Army. He was a Machinist by trade. He worked for Perfection Gear and Fluor-Daniels Construction Company where he retired. He enjoyed doing woodworking projects in his shop behind the house. Walter loved the Lord and was a faithful member of The First Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 PM at The First Freewill Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Smothers Weatherford; three sons, Paul Weatherford, Marc Weatherford and wife Tina, and Keith Weatherford and wife Rene; his grandchildren, Chandler, Rylan, and Abbi and two bonus grandchildren, Elizabeth and Madison Sturgeon.

Walter was predeceased by his brothers, James and Woody Weatherford; and his sisters, Ruth and Irene Weatherford and Maybell Meads.
