World Blood Donor Day

The Blood Connection joined many blood centers around the country and the world to celebrate World Blood Donor Day on June 14th. Every year, countries around the world collectively celebrate to raise awareness of the need for safe blood/blood products and to thank voluntary blood donors for their lifesaving gifts.

A blood service that gives patients access to safe blood products in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective health system. The global theme of World Blood Donor Day recognizes the selfless individuals who donate their blood for people unknown to them.

The middle of June is a critical time for blood centers in the U.S. specifically, as summer school schedules, traveling, and vacations make donating challenging for many regular donors. Typically in the summer, hospitals also see more traumas, increasing the demand for blood. It’s essential that there’s enough blood on the shelves for any patient at any given time. Blood cannot be manufactured or replicated.

To celebrate World Blood Donor Day with local blood donors in this community, TBC blood donors received an exclusive bonus gift on June 14th only, in addition to the daily donor gift. To make an appointment, visit thebloodconnection.org/donate.
